So the lake here in Madison has frozen over and I caught the UW sports society ( which goes by the name ‘Hoofers’ ) putting up a giant head and torch in the ice.

First I assumed it was a reference to the recent ‘the day after tommorrow’ but turns out it’s more meant to referrence the original planet of the apes.

Nonetheless, I just thought this was way cool. See attached photos ( Taken with crappy iPhone camera. ) I wish I had had time to come back later when it was fully set up.

Anyone that’s seen stuff by Joss Whedon’s ‘Mutant Enemy Productions’ (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, or Firefly) Will probably have heard of this, and even if not, it’s absolutely worth watching.

Basically during the big Writer’s Strike Joss Whedon and a bunch of people from those shows teamed up together to show that you could make a good, funny movie with a tiny budget.

‘Dr. Horribe’s Sing-Along blog’ was the result. it’s the tale of a wannabe evil genius super villain, Dr. Horrible, and his quarrels with the full-of-himself-loved-by-everyone super hero, Captain Hammer (played by ‘Mal’ from firefly).

Oh yeah, it’s all in musical format, and the music is gorgeous. Bought if off iTunes the first day I saw it.

It was released for free online in 3 ‘acts’ over the course of a few weeks. Crashed their server multiple times every time they brought out a new act because of the massive fan-response. You can now buy it on DVD, and iTunes, but they also have it Hosted on Hulu, linked on their site.

I personally feel that this is one of those must-see movies for any self-respecting geek out there, along the lines of Galaxy quest.
